I just watched on youtube a video from TEDx Talks entitled "How to multiply your time?" by Rory Vaden. I recommend you watch this also on youtube. It has very good message which is also very much applicable for us engineers who dream of starting our home-based business. This video has indeed touched something very important in our life, time. It is not only about time management, but how should we spend time.
Please let me share Rory’s simple story that caught my attention:
It was early on a Saturday morning, I was at my business partner’s house, and I was picking him up for a very important international leader planning retreat, and he has a 2-year-old baby girl named Haven, and she is the sweetest little thing you can imagine. She has curly brown hair, and these sweet, soft, brown eyes, and we live in Nashville, so she has a little southern accent that’s developing and as I’m picking up Dustin, and we’re about to leave, Haven come sprinting down the hallway and she leaps, and she latches on to Dustin’s leg, and she says: “Daddy where you going?” And he looks down at her and he says: “Oh, I’m sorry baby Haven, Daddy actually has to go to work today.” And she looks up at him, and her eyes well up with tears, and she says: “No Daddy, please, no work today. No work Daddy.”
In this story, I realized that time management is no longer just logical but it is also EMOTIONAL. Our feelings of guilt, fear, worry, anxiety and frustration dictate how we should choose to spend our time, as much as anything that’s in our calendar, on our to-do list. In fact, there is no such thing as time management. You can’t manage time, time continues on whether we like it or not. So there is no such thing as time management. Really, there is only self-management. That was the first big realization that I had.
The question now, my dear engineer, is: What can I do today, that would make tomorrow better?” “What can I do right now, that would make the future better?”
We should spend time now on building our home-based business using our engineering skills. Learn how to establish an online business that brings you passive income. Invest for the next 6 months at least 4 hours a day dedicated to learning and starting an online business and I assure you that you will have more time with your 2-year-old child, with your spouse or with your loved ones in the near future. This is how you “MULTIPLY YOUR TIME”. The way that you multiply time is simple: you multiply your time, by giving yourself the emotional permission to spend time on things today that give you more time tomorrow.
Waiting to do something we know we should do, but don’t feel like doing, that is procrastination, that is the killer of all success. Do something every day that contributes or brings value to the online business you want to build.
Decide now and take action, if your problem is that you can’t decide what action to take, and are putting off making a decision because you’re nervous about making the wrong choice, I am here to assist you. You may read my previous posts to provide you ideas for online business.
You may also find other blogging engineers who are already successful in their online business and learn directly from them. I have learned from so many bloggers. The best part is, almost all resources I needed to start my online business are free. My only starting cost is the purchase of my domain name and web hosting from hostgator.
What are you waiting for engineer? Take action now!
I can do all this through Christ who gives me strength.
